Healthy Snacks for Children That Allow for Greatness

We want to fuel our children so they can use their energy for learning, growing, and just being the adventurous kids they are. Certainly, children love to eat candy, chocolate, and all things bad for them. But, we know that giving our children these snacks on a daily basis can lead to both behavioral and health issues. So, it can be challenging to know what to feed our kids as snacks throughout the day to keep them motivated for greatness. To make it easier on parents who want to give their kids healthier snack options, we’ve come up with a few ideas in this article. Get some new ideas on snacks for children and fuel your children so they’re prepared for greatness!

Trail Mix with Healthy Ingredients

Trail mix is a great midday snack for kids and parents alike. This snack includes a wide variety of nuts, which offer protein for your child’s growth and development. Plus, raisins and, oftentimes, chocolate, to help to ease that sweet tooth that your child (and every other child) likely has. With this snack option, you can always choose the many options at the store. Just make sure to choose a type that’s not loaded with sugary ingredients and incorporates the nuts and dried fruits. Or, you can make your own buy purchasing ingredients independently. This way, you can choose exactly the ingredients you want your child to eat in their trail mix.

Fruits and Vegetables

However, there are fruits and vegetables that may be a better choice than others. So, if you’re choosing fruits for your child’s snacks, try choosing fruits that have less natural sugars. These fruits include blackberries, grapefruit, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, and watermelon. Furthermore, when choosing vegetables, choose some that are high in protein, as these will give your child energy to work with. Some of these vegetables include broccoli, corn, peas, beans, asparagus, and brussel sprouts.

Add Some Cheese

Some people may not think cheese is a great snack choice. But, it’s actually a great source of calcium, which can help your child grow strong bones. One good option for a cheese snack is low-fat string cheese, which is fun for kids as they can pull the cheese apart before eating. So, not only is it tasty, but it’s fun too!

Other Snack Options That Aren’t Chips

Chips are boiled in fat, so they aren’t the best option for children, as they don’t offer any nutrition. But, who doesn’t love chips? Fortunately, there are some good alternatives to consider as snacks for children. Some of these choices include pretzels, baked chips, popcorn, vegetable chips, pita chips, dried fruit chips, and crackers.

Selecting Packaged Foods Carefully

We get it, prepackaged snacks are easy and quick. But, they may not be the best thing for children, as they don’t offer very much quality as far as nutrition goes. However, it’s not the end of the world to choose prepackaged snacks, especially if they do include good ingredients. So, if you want to keep including prepackaged snacks into your child’s daily schedule, try some healthier options like granola bars, fruit snacks, and yogurt.
