How to Choose the Early Child Learning Center Right for You

If you’re looking for a place to send your infant, toddler, or young child and have decided that daycare doesn’t provide the educational materials you child needs to develop a desire for learning, an early child learning center is right for you. But how do you go about choosing the program that is best for you, your child, and your family? In this article, we’ve come up with a few tips to choosing the best early child learning center based on your wants and needs.

Researching Your Options

Certainly, you don’t want to send your child to the first early child learning center you come across. Instead, you’ll want to perform some research about the facilities you’re considering. After all, no one knows what is best for your child but you. One great place to start finding facilities which may meet your needs is a community childcare center. At these centers, you can get a list of all early child learning facilities around your area. And, you’ll be able to wind down your search for location purposes.
Once you’ve wound down the area you’d like to stay within and the centers within that area, you can further your research by:

  • Finding out how much tuition is
  • Reviewing programs and curriculums
  • Establishing ages of children enrolled
  • Making sure facilities are licensed
  • Involvement of families and additional services
  • Reviewing general philosophy and mission statement
  • Finding out the size of classrooms and how many children are enrolled
  • Coming up with a list of unanswered questions to bring on scheduled visits of facilities
  • Scheduling a Visit to the Facilities of Your Choice

How to Choose the Early Child Learning Center Right for YouOnce you’ve got your choices to a couple or few facilities, you can ask to schedule a visit. During your visit, you’ll be able to see in real time how the facility runs. And, you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions which haven’t already been answered throughout your research. Furthermore, it will give you a chance to meet and interview the instructors and directors of each facility. After all, it’s these people you’ll be leaving your child with every day of the week.

During your Scheduled Visit

While you’re touring an early child learning center, there are a few things which you should look for. First and foremost, scan the classroom for general requirements you’re looking for like educational materials and learning tools. Also, ask yourself how you feel about your child spending time in the space you’re visiting. Do the children and instructors seem happy? Does it feel like a fun place to spend time and learn? Remember to imagine how your child will spend time in the environment, if they’d enjoy the materials, and if they could take advantage of the program.
